Common compounds
We use alkali metal compounds. Some common examples are:
- Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate NaHCO3)
- Lye (sodium hydroxide NaOH) is used in petroleum products and soap
- Table salt (sodium chloride NaCl)
- Muriate of potash (potassium chloride KCl) used as fertilizer
COmpound properties
- Group 1 nitrates, Group 1 carbonates, and Group 1 hydrogencarbonates increase in thermal stability as you go down the group.
- Solubility increases for Group 1 carbonates, and Group 1 hydroxides as you go down the group.
